Funeral services for Gilbert T. "Gil" Lopez, 80, of Silvis, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Intombment will be at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Mr. Lopez died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Gil was born Aug. 22, 1932, in Chillicothe, the son of Panfilo and Josephina Rodriguez Lopez. He married Mary Sandoval July 14, 1956, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline, in 1987, after nearly 30 years of service. He enjoyed baseball greatly. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. He loved his family, and he especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Lopez, Silvis; daughter, Lada (Jose) Rangel, Colona; sons, Larry Lopez, Moline, Mario Lopez, Coal Valley, and Gilbert Frank Lopez, Silvis; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Lenora Bustamante, Chicago, Louise Acosta, Chicago, and Delores (Fernando) Delgadillo, Bartonville; brother, Jesse (Margaret) Lopez, Rock Island; sister-in-law, Nadine Wakefield, Rock Island.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sophie Delgado, Rosie Lopez and Pauline Ruiz; and brothers, Paul and Peter Lopez.
