Letter: Why marriage laws? To collect taxes, protect kids
Comment on this story
Why do we have marriage laws? -- So the government can have another tax. -- To protect children. If it wasn't for children there would be no marriages. The Illinois General Assembly is going to pass same-sex marriage in January. Why? To please a very loud minority (less than 2 percent). Every Illinois lawmaker should go to the Ruth Institute website to read and download "77 Non-religious Reasons to Support Man/Woman Marriage." Same-sex marriage will not enhance morality in the state. It will only make some people feel that their perverted life style is normal. This is a case of money talks, and the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I think the General Assembly could spend its time a lot more productively by getting the state's financial house in order. Before you put words in my mouth or read something into this letter that I didn't say, I do not hate homosexuals! I just go by the moral guide that this country was founded on, the Holy Bible.
