Richard C. Seyller, 86, of Hooppole, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Aspen Rehab and Health Care, Silvis.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Calvary Evangelical Congregational Church in Hooppole. The Rev. David Bailey will officiate. Burial will follow at Hooppole Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Hooppole American Legion Post. Visitation for Richard will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Atkinson Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Memorials may be left to the Calvary Evangelical Congregational Church or to Alzheimer's Disease Research.
Richard was born June 15, 1926, in Hooppole, the son of Conrad and Mildred Groves Seyller. He was a graduate of Annawan High School. Richard served his country proudly in the US Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was united in marriage to Patricia Mullen Aug. 21, 1954 in Hooppole. She preceded him in 1995.
Richard was a lifetime farmer in rural Hooppole and Prophetstown areas.
Richard was a member of Calvary Evangelical Congregational Church in Hooppole and was church treasurer for 35 years. He was a charter and lifetime member of the Hooppole American Legion Post where he played Taps for funerals and events for the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling and watching college basketball games.
Richard is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Jack (Jean) Seyller, Moline, and David (Brenda) Seyller, East Moline; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Seyller, Moline, and Peggy (Alan) Larson, Plano, Texas; six grandchildren, Tracy Klugger, Jessica, David, Rebbecca, Christian and Trevor Seyllor; and a sister, Connie Riley, Avada, Colo. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Frank Seyller.
