Letter: Guns: Americans living in the past and the present

Comment on this story

When the Constitution was written, people walked, drove horse and buggy or rode horses. The laws were meant for that period of time.

As an example, you didn't need a driver's license or hunting license, or need to know the Rules of the Road, because there weren't many roads. Times were different then, and have been changing ever since. Our Constitution was never meant to remain the same!

Article 2: The right to bear arms -- Muskets were used at that time. A musket is different from an assault rifle!

FOX News touted that the government will take the Second Amendment away. How could that be done if it takes both Congress and Senate to vote on it? It's not the hunter's guns that people want outlawed. It is the mass killing guns that should be outlawed!

I would like to see the Stand Your Ground Law, as well as concealed weapons laws struck down. There are far too many people with mental illnesses living among us.

We need to have our hunting guns for wild game management, but we do not need the type of gun that can be used for mass murder, especially at our schools.

We shouldn't have to choose between the right to bear arms or copycat killing!

I was saddened when I read the letter, "Constitution brilliantly written." The brother has a one-sided view. We have a police department, National Guard, and the finest military in the world. When God comes back, Jesus is your only Savior!
