Harry Lewis "Lew" Parrish, 77, of Nelsonville, Ky., formerly of Geneseo, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown, Ky.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Mark Mueller will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Lew will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Memorials may be left to the Lew Parrish Memorial Fund.
Lew was born on July 26, 1935, in Nelsonville, the son of John W. and Lena Crady Parrish. He was united in marriage to Lila Neuleib on March 21, 1953, in Geneseo. She preceded him in death in 1999. He later married Henrietta Hall.
Lew worked for U Nash and Bos Machine as a machine repairman for 35 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and had been active in the Geneseo Youth Baseball organization for many years. Lew was an avid stock car racer and demolition derby participant in many county fairs. He enjoyed coaching sports when his boys were younger and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Lew is survived by his wife, Henrietta; one daughter, Sue (Bob) Robinson, Kewanee; three sons, Richard Parrish, Bettendorf, Bill (Liz) Parrish, Geneseo, and Dennis Parrish, Geneseo; 11 grandchildren, Jamie (Al) Eastburn, Callie Parrish, Jason Parrish, Heather (Josh) Bernhard, Cory Parrish, Lindsey (Jeff) Jennings, Stacee Parrish, Beau Parrish, Jennifer (Haneesh) Bagga, Sarah Robinson and Michelle Robinson; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donald Parrish, Nelsonville, Jimmy Parrish, Nelsonville, Larry Parrish, Okolona, Ky., and Foster Parrish, Corapeake, N.C.; and two sisters, Dorothy Clemons, Nelsonville, and Mattie Gibson, New Haven, Ky.
Lew was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Junior and Marvin Parrish.
