Milan to promote Johnson from police captain to chief

Shawn Johnson has been named Milan police chief.

Mr. Johnson, who is being promoted from captain, is scheduled to be approved as chief at the Monday village board meeting, city administrator Steve Seiver said.

Capt. Johnson joined the Milan Police Department in 1997 and previously worked for the Galva Police Department.

"He's an outstanding officer, as well as an upstanding individual," Mr. Seiver said. "He's well respected within the department and the community."

A Geneseo native who now lives in Milan, Capt. Johnson is 40 and married with two children.

Longtime police chief Mark Beckwith retired Nov. 9 and becameassistant chief of security for Augustana College. Capt. Johnson has been serving as interim chief since Mr. Beckwith's retirement.
