BHC invites musicians to join ensembles

Local musicians are invited to join one of the Black Hawk College community music ensembles. Rehearsals begin the week of Jan. 14.

Auditions are not required. The ensembles include high school students, college students, faculty members, retirees and other community members who enjoy performing music from a variety of periods and styles.

Rehearsals will be in the evenings at the Quad-Cities Campus in Moline.

Community Band - Tuesdays, Jan. 15 to May 14
Community Chorale - Thursdays, Jan. 17 to May 16
Community Jazz Band - Wednesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 16 to May 16
Community String Orchestra - Mondays, Jan. 14 to May 13
Youth Orchestra (grades 5-12) - Mondays, Jan. 14 to April 29

Cost is $20 per course, except the Youth Orchestra which is $60.

Take this training before starting a small business

Do you want to start your own business? Be prepared before you make that investment. Register for the award-winning Black Hawk College Small Business Certificate Program.

The Saturday morning program offers practical knowledge based on sound business theories that are immediately applicable in the small-business setting. Participants may attend one or more classes, but must attend all eight to earn the Small Business Certificate.

The next session will begin Saturday, Jan. 19 with the class "Is Owning a Small Business for You? and Overview of a Business Plan."

All classes meet from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Illinois workNet Center in Moline. Cost is $50 per class or $300 for the eight-week program.

The BHC Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) Information Night will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the college's Outreach Center, 301 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline.

BHC offering new Statistical Process Control course

Quality is everyone's responsibility in an organization. A basic understanding of quality and the ability to apply its concepts daily can be the determining factor for success or failure of any organization.

Gain an understanding of how to perform Statistical Process Control with basic quality tools in a new six-week evening class at Black Hawk College.

The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 22 to Feb. 26, at the college's Quad-Cities Campus in Moline. Cost is $300.
