Yoder takes over as Augie trainer

Denise Yoder, who was raised in Geneseo, has been named head athletic trainer at Augustana College.Yoder, who had been the associate athletic trainer at Augustana since 1997, replaces Rochel Rittgers, who resigned in November after spending 28 years at the college.

"I feel very honored to be given this opportunity," said Yoder. "Augustana is a special place to me and I am looking forward to working with tremendously motivated student-athletes, a committed coaching staff and a supportive administration."

Yoder is a 1989 graduate of Augustana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology with an emphasis on athletic training. She was also a member of the Vikings' track & field team as an undergraduate. Shereceived her Master's of Science in physical education/athletic training at Ohio University in 1991.

"I am excited that Denise will be serving our coaches and student-athletes as our head athletic trainer," said Mike Zapolski, the college's director of athletics. "Denise's experience, interpersonal skills and knowledge base will serve us well as we work to strengthen our ties with the local medical community and on-campus support staff in an effort to enhance the array of services provided to our students and teams."

Yoder will be in charge of Augustana's athletic training department which provides service to 23 varsity sports with more than 700 athletes.
