CAMBRIDGE — A "Shooting for Shriners" fundraiser for Shriner's Hospitals will be held at tonight's 6 p.m. Cambridge High School boys' basketball game at the high school.
Many local residents have received medical help from Shriners, including Jake Swanson, a freshman on the basketball team.
Mr. Swanson's parents, Bonnie and Randy Swanson, have been taking him to the Chicago Shriners Hospital since he was young. In seventh grade, he had surgery to fix knee and foot problems related to one leg being longer than the other.
He had a second surgery a year later, and probably will need another to correct some bone-on-bone rubbing.
Tonight's fundraiser is for the local Blackhawk Shriners who provide transportation and other assistance for Shriner's patients and their families. Two other Shriners patients, a young boy from Sherrard and a girl from Peru, are scheduled to attend the Cambridge event.
It will include gift baskets, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and bake raffle.
