New reality TV show to film Q-C arm-wrestling

If you love to arm wrestle, you have the chance to win cash and appear on a new reality TV series being filmed in a tournament this month in Bettendorf.

A new showcalled "American Arm Wrestling" will be filmed, starting Wednesday, at The Clubhouse, 2501 53rd Ave., Bettendorf. There will be a total of $1,500 in prize money up for grabs the rest of all Wednesday and Thursday nights through January.

Registration, weigh-in and interviews will be from 6 to8 p.m., with competition (each round two out of three to eliminate) starting at 8 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee per person.

This month's matches will be qualifying for the finals on Feb. 1, also at The Clubhouse. Winners of the three weight categories (80-170 pounds, 171-200, and 201-plus) at the final competition will qualify for the USA National Championship in Eau Claire, Wis., in June.

"Our goal is to make stars, to look for characters around the country," said Dan Kost, CEO of Quad-Cities-basedDAKDAN Entertainment, which is producing the reality series for the Discovery's "Destination America" network. "This will give the Quad-Cities some good promotion."

Interviews and final matches first will be broadcast on YouTube.com/ArmSportsTV, and the reality show "American Arm Wrestler" is planned to come out in the summer or fall on Destination America (in 68 million homes nationwide), which is only available in the Quad-Cities on DirecTV or Dish network, Mr. Kost said.

His company also produced the reality series "American Resort," filmed at the Hillcrest Event Center in Orion. "American Arm Wrestler" will be filmed throughout the Midwest, including Iowa City and Peoria, Mr. Kost said.

The Clubhouse in Bettendorf is a sports destination with PGA Tour simulators, full bar service, Ping-Pong, turtle races, free billiards, shuffleboard, foosball and other sports activities.
