David E. Frits, 57, of Port Byron, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the David Frits Memorial Fund.
David was born July 4, 1955, in Moline, the son of William and Janice Wuehle Frits. He graduated from Riverdale High School in 1973. He married Cathy Taylor on Sept. 5, 1981. They were later divorced.
David had worked for Frontier Communications and its predecessor companies as a lineman since 1974. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 51. He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage and drinking coffee with his friends. David was a devout Chicago Bears fan, and he also enjoyed trains and planes.
He is survived by his mother, Jan Willard, Davenport; two children, Jacob (Lindsay) Frits, East Moline, Jamie Frits, Silvis; a sister, Sue (Tom) Palm, Cordova; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Larry Frits; and stepfather, Donald Willard.
