Direct sale allows customers to get cookies on the spot
The girls of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois will have a new cookie and a new look for their much-anticipated cookie sale this year.
Girls will begin selling Feb. 2 and continue through March 17, with booth sales launching Feb. 8. National Girl Scout Cookie Day is also Feb. 8.
The new cookie, the Mango Crème, is a tropical-inspired sandwich crème cookie with Nutrifusion. This tangy treat is packed with great taste and vitamins.
The cookie packaging has been updated to include stories of what Girl Scouts do today, the fun they have doing it and all that girls learn from the experience, including financial literacy skills.
The Lemonades will join the Thanks-A-Lots with the recyclable film packaging. This is a part of an eco-friendly packaging initiative and is expected to reduce 300 tons of paperboard entering the waste stream.
"The Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program is so much more than a sale. It's a way for girls to develop five business skills that they'll use throughout their lives: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics," said Nikki Habben, vice president of operations. She leads the annual cookie sale for the council.
The cookie sale is the largest girl-led business in the country, and provides vital financial support for individual, troop and council initiatives. The price will remain the same as last year for the eight varieties of cookies, at $3.50 a box.
All of the proceeds – $2.56 per box or approximately 75 percent – stay in the council.
