The Quad City Mallards aren't the only local hockey club hosting a charity fundraiser this weekend at the i wireless Center.
The Quad City Blues, which include students from several local high schools, play a benefit game Sunday at Moline's downtown arena with the rival Cedar Rapids Roughriders.
Proceeds from the event on the pro team's home ice, go to the Genesis Diabetes Care Center.
Doors open at 11 a.m., followed by the varsity game at noon and the JV contest immediately following at approximately 2 p.m.
As part of the Blues' third annual benefit, the team will wear special jerseys donated by Genesis Health System to show their support for the cause. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off after the contest with all of the proceeds donated to the Blues' charity of choice.
In addition to the jersey auction, t-shirt sales, a bake sale and silent auction of goods and services donated by family, friends and sponsors will be held to help raise additional funds.
The previous two Blues' benefits raised in excess of $17,500 for Breast Cancer Research and Heart Health Awareness.
