1863 — 150 years ago: The wants of the public demand more room at the post office and a separate entrance for the ladies. The large number of persons, who assemble at the post office every evening, are much incommoded for the want of room.
1888 — 125 years ago: Six cases of diphtheria have been reported in Rock Island since Jan. 1. The disease is abating somewhat.
1913 — 100 years ago: The Rock Island Lines will erect a $100,000 station at Moline on the new property purchased yesterday.
1938 — 75 years ago: Dr. Sidney A. Wiggins, of Rock Island, has been re-elected president of the Black Hawk Federal Savings and Loan Association.
1963 — 50 years ago: About 250 persons, members, their ladies and friends of Rock Island Lodge No. 190, Loyal Order of Moose, braved the adverse weather conditions and attended the events of the three day weekend celebration in the Moose lodge rooms commemorating the 53rd anniversary of the lodge.
1988 — 25 years ago: The annual report of the Rock Island County Chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) shows greater workshop activity but fewer office contacts in 1987 than in 1986. SCORE sponsors an annual workshop and three pre-business workshops in cooperation with The Small Business Development Center and the Commerce Industry Technical Assistance Center of Black Hawk College.
