Rock Island aldermen will consider a proposed expansion to a child care center at their council meeting tonight.

LaTonya Terrell has provided licensed in-home child care for nine years at 3150 12th St., Rock Island, and wants to apply for a special-use permit to operate a larger day carecenter at 1740 9th Ave., in avacant formermedical office building.

The property is zoned residential, according to a city council memo. The proposedbusiness will have five to seven employees (some part time and somefull time) and serve up to 40 children.

Hours of operation will start off being from 6 a.m.to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and may be extended to 11:59p.m. after six months, according to the council memo.

There is a side parking lot with space for about 15 vehicles. The impact of the use on neighboring and adjoining property owners can best be determined by apublic hearing, which would be required in a special-use permit application, according to city staff.

The facility will be used for learning activities and the serving of meals, according to a letter from Ms. Terrell. She also plans to place a lighted sign advertising the center on the lawn in front of the building.

The city council meets at 6:45 p.m. on the third floor of city hall, 1528 3rd Ave. A complete agenda can be found at www.rigov.org.
