Letter: Honor Lane Evans, name major Q-C street for him
Comment on this story
I am proud to say I attended school with Congressman Lane Evans. Lane was a congressman for 24 years -- an unbeaten record and one to be proud of.
Lane Evans is a well known individual, one who has earned our trust, listened, understood people.
He went out of his way to work with people from all types of backgrounds and did whatever it took to help people in need -- like the Rock Island Arsenal, one of our major employers within 17th District.
During Lane's time in office, his support of the Arsenal helped keep it open while cuts were being made nationwide.
Let's recognize Lane Evans by naming an avenue or a street after him. We have Black Hawk and John Deere roads, Kennedy Drive all named after leaders, why not Lane Evans?
Just like he traveled miles for the people as a U.S. Marine and our congressman for 24 years, he deserves the right to have a long traveled road named after him -- one that goes for miles (like Avenue of the Cities).
