A Rock Island man who admitted Thursday to beating another man over the head with a candle was sentenced to 18 months of conditional discharge. Milton Junior Jones,32, of 417 9th St., pleaded guilty to one felony count of aggravated battery at a plea hearing in Rock Island County Circuit Court. As part of his plea agreement, a charge of criminal trespass to a residence was dismissed. According to information presented in court, Mr. Jones went uninvited, in September, to a Rock Island home. The residents called police, who instructed Mr. Jones to leave the property but, within five minutes, Mr. Jones returned. During a fight between Mr. Jones and a male resident, Mr. Jones grabbed a large wax candle and "whacks him over the head with it two times," assistant state's attorney Mark Senko said during Thursday's hearing.
