Fifth annual Eric Ottens Shootout set for today at Fulton High School

Fulton High School will host its fifth annual Eric Ottens Memorial Shootout today at Stan Borgman Court, with the Steamers welcoming a field that includes Three Rivers Conference rivals Erie and Prophetstown in addition to Mississippi Athletic Conference member Clinton.

The shootout tips off at 2:30 p.m. with Prophetstown (11-10) taking on Stockton. At 4 p.m., Stillman Valley tangles with Elmhurst Timothy Christian, then Erie (16-9) takes on Clinton (5-8) at 5:30. Fulton (4-18) then it takes on Preston (Iowa) in the 7 p.m. finale.

The event was started in 2009 to honor the memory of former Fulton boys' basketball great Eric Ottens, who tragically died in an automobile crash in March of 2006, just 18 days after his 23rd birthday. During his years in a Steamer uniform, Ottens helped guide his club to Class A regional championships in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.In his four years, Fulton compiled a 94-23 record under head coach Barry Bauer. Ottens played collegiately at the University of Evansville in Indiana.
