Richard Henry Stewart, 86, of Hillsdale, passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at the Royal Oaks Care Center, Kewanee.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, at Bethesda Cemetery, Hillsdale. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the Royal Oaks Care Center, Kewanee.
Richard was born on Aug. 11, 1926, in Hillsdale, the son of Fred and Dorothea Stewart. He lived his entire life in Hillsdale. In Dick's teenage years, he worked in a grocery store and locker plant in Hillsdale. He was drafted into the service during World War II and spent most of his time on South Pacific Island. Upon discharge, he worked at Ametek as an electrician and continued working there until Ametek moved out of the area. Following that, he worked at International Harvester until they closed. He then went to Case I.H. and worked until his retirement in the late 1980s.
Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending his vegetable garden. He also very much enjoyed cooking for friends and family.
Survivors include his brother, William Stewart, Hillsdale; sisters, Arlene Misfeldt, Geneseo, and Maxine (Daniel) Evans, Cambridge. He was preceded in death by his parents.
