RI man faces 2 charges for allegedly driving drunk on a revoked license

Police claim a Rock Island man drove more than 20 miles over the speed limit while intoxicated before being stopped by officers on Nov. 17.

Dewaun Anthony Berry, 34, faces his third driving under the influence conviction and third offense for driving on a revoked license.

Ata preliminary hearing on Tuesday in Rock Island County Circuit Court, Illinois State Police Trooper Marvin Wagle said Mr. Berry drove52 miles per hour in a 30 mph speed limitnear Centennial Bridge about 1:15 a.m. Nov. 17, at a time when his driver's license was revoked for a previous DUI conviction.

The trooper said Mr. Berry appeared to have slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. TrooperWagle testified Mr. Berry submitted to a preliminary breath test and blew .105, higher than the legal limit of .08.

Mr. Berry previously has been convicted of two DUI offenses and two driving on a revoked license violations, the trooper said.Mr. Berry remained in Rock Island County Jail on Tuesday on a $15,000 bond and has a pretrial conference scheduled for March 1.
