An East Moline woman whose body was recovered from a vehicle submerged in the Mississippi River off the Ben Butterwoth Parkway in Moline on Dec. 10 drowned, according to Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson.
The death of Leah F. Manche, 28, wasa "presumed drowning due to a motor vehicle mishap," Mr. Gustafson said on Tuesday.
He said alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident but didn't say what her blood alcohol level was.
No autopsy was performed, and Mr. Gustafson said the case is closed.
The red, four-door Pontiac Grand Prix was pulled from the river after a patrol officer driving in the 4500 block of River Drive spotted the tail lights about 3 a.m.
Water rescue efforts were launched by 3:37 a.m. but temporarily halted because of high waves and wind, police said at the time.
Big River Rescue/Recovery Dive Team divers pulled out the vehicle, and Ms. Manche was found inside.
