Moline man charged after allegedly holding woman, her children captive

Bryan Daniel Sharpe, wanted by police for nearly three weeks after allegedly holding a Moline woman and her children captive, made an initial appearance on Wednesday in Rock Island County Circuit Court.

Mr. Sharpe, 32, of Moline, was charged withfelony counts of home invasion and unlawful restraint, as well as misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and unlawful violation of an order of protection.

He remained in the Rock Island County Jail on Wednesday evening on a $300,000 bond and awaits a Tuesday preliminary hearing.

Moline Police have searched for Mr. Sharpe since Jan. 10 when he allegedly forced his way into his girlfriend's home,in the 3100 block of 11th Ave. C, at about 6:30 a.m., choked her and broke her cellphone.

Police said Mr. Sharpe held the woman and her children captive for several hours before members of her family arrived at the home.A fight ensued and Mr. Sharpe allegedly battered some family members, including at least one child.

Mr. Sharpe's girlfriend had an emergency order of protection against him. Police at the time said they believed he was trying to stop her from attending a related court hearing that morning.
