Elaine M. Lundeen, 90, formerly of Rock Island, and Mesa, Ariz., passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, Jan. 21, in Boulder, Colo.
Interment will be held in early summer at the Rock Island National Cemetery, followed by a remembrance gathering.
Elaine was born in Rock Island to the late Emma Klockau Ryan and Dennis Ryan on Aug. 10, 1922. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and Rock Island High School. After graduating from "Rocky" she attended Bradley University, where she met her future husband, Howard "Hod" M. Lundeen. On Aug. 21, 1942, they were married in Rock Island and spent 59 years together until Hod's death in 2001.
Elaine was employed by the Rock Island Public Schools as an administrative secretary and Hod retired as Rocky's athletic director. Elaine enjoyed gardening and traveling, taking annual family vacations to California and Arizona. In 1977, she and Hod retired. They moved to Mesa, where she lived until 2012. In Mesa, she was very active, volunteering for 30 years at Banner Lutheran Hospital, hiking throughout Arizona and taking daily long walks in her retirement village.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Don Price; two grandchildren, Sasha and Kyra Price, all of Boulder; and her sister, Doris Ryan McElwee.
