Sex trafficking to be topic of AAUW meeting
Comment on this story
Maggie Tinsman of Bettendorf, a former Iowa state senator, will present a program about sex trafficking in the Quad-Cities to the Rock Island-Moline Branch of the American Association of University Women at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Butterworth Center, 1105 8th St., Moline. The free meeting is open to the public. Sex trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which girls younger than 18 are forced into prostitution. Saturday's program will focus on the trafficking of girls ages 11 to 14. While a state senator, Ms. Tinsman drafted human trafficking laws in 2005 that were passed in 2006. She also founded a Quad Cities Human Trafficking Project task force, the predecessor to the new Braking Traffik organization.
