Dorothy was born June 9, 1927, in Davenport, the daughter of Floyd and Carmen Carter Winckler. She graduated from Davenport Central High School. She married Robert W. Adams on July 9, 1948, in Milan. He preceded her in death on Dec.19, 1997.

After living in Macomb and Peoria, Ill., the family moved to Moline in 1963, where Dorothy worked as the head checker at the Jewel Turnstyle store. Her husband's work later took her to Madison, Wis., Belleville, Ill., and Wheaton, Ill., before the couple retired to Ruskin, Fla. After her husband's death, she moved back to be near family and friends, spending time in Davenport, Hot Springs, Ark., Lititz, Pa., and the Chicago area.
During her retirement Dorothy enjoyed painting, ceramics and golf, but her greatest love was for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Daryl (Martha) Adams, Barrington Hills, Ill., Dennise S. (Gary) Benear, Swansea, Ill., and Pamela J. (Earl) Snyder, Lititz; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne K. England.
