GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) — Members of a west-central Illinois church have packaged more than 285,000 meals that will be shipped to malnourished people in Nigeria.

The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reports that more than 250 gathered at Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg to box the meals in assembly-line fashion.

Each meal is made off soy protein, rice, dehydrated vegetables and a combination of vitamins, minerals and seasoning. The meals are designed to have enough nutrients to help people living in hunger.

The Rev. Lee Johnson says the church raised $80,000 in four months to pay for the food and supplies.

The Galesburg church is coordinating with a Minnesota-based non-profit organization. Johnson says the group will track the containers with the food until they reach their destination.
