Coach House Garages can custom-build pool houses, offices and other structures in addition to garages.
Homeowners looking for a home improvement project with a return on investment that will surpass the project cost might consider a garage.

Coach House Garages is a 40-year-old company that was founded in 1973 by an Amish carpenter.

Since then, the firm has built more than 22,000 garages in four states. The firm also builds pool houses, cabins and even businesses -- "whatever the customer is looking for."

"We have a lot of really good, dedicated people that work here," said Jim Yoder, president of the firm, from its headquarters in Arthur, Ill.

Quad-Cities dealer-representative Randy Rogers is the first Coach House customer the firm ever hired as an employee.

"This is a special company run by special people," said Mr. Rogers. "The customer is the most important, and we don't scrimp. They have an old-fashioned way of doing business. This company should not be unique, but it is."

Coach House gives customers an actual purchase price rather than an estimate. The firm quote precludes rude awakenings in the form of overruns at the end of the project.

Coach House provides lien waivers to customers to ensure that firms that have provided material for their garages don't show up later to demand payment for the materials, and the company offers a five-year craftsmanship and structural warranty.

The garages have details such as concrete curbs that keep the wood up out of the weather and also prevent the risk of fires from spilled oil and gas soaking into the walls.

The firm is a member of the Better Business Bureau, the Home Builders Association and Angie's List, and it encourages people to check out its reputation with local governments and municipalities.

As the company motto says, "It's more than just a garage, it's a Coach House."
