Press release submitted by University of Illinois Extension.

Join University of Illinois Extension 4-H, the Illinois Math and Science Academy and students from Augustana College for a new leadership program for teens ages 14 - 18. The initiative will kick-off on Saturday, Feb. 9, with a full day leadership retreat to be held at the Western Illinois University Riverfront, Moline from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Cost for the day is $20 which includes lunch, snacks and all program supplies. Both half-fee and full scholarships are also available upon request. Register by Feb 6. Call (309) 756-9978.
The day will include opportunities to meet other teen leaders, identify personal leadership styles, explore communication skills, develop teamwork, and learn more about ways that teens can engage their leadership potential in their schools and communities. The event will also feature a presentation by "The Sparkle Effect" from the Quad Cities - a perfect example of a young person who identified a need, a small group who developed a passion, and a dedicated group who made a dream a reality, not only here, but across the nation.
Teens who participate in the Feb. 9 event will be invited to get involved after that by teaching at the Students Involved in Technology Conference, serving as teen leaders at summer day camps, and/or planning future events for QC Teen Leaders. Teens will also have an opportunity to earn scholarships to the Illini Summer Leadership Academy at the University of Illinois in late June.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Amy Helpenstell Foundation.
