MidCoast Fine Arts will hold a 'Fifty Shades of Clay' fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Bucktown Center for the Arts, Davenport.

In its first fundraiser since Moline's Pamela Crouch became executive director five months ago,MidCoast Fine Arts presents "Fifty Shades of Clay," a fun benefit planned for Saturday, Feb.16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bucktown Center for the Arts, 225 E. 2nd St., Davenport.

At this unique, tactile Valentine's Day benefit, you can get down and dirty with your special someone, by re-creating the famous pottery wheel scene from the movie "Ghost," playwith papier-mâché clay, and create Valentine's Day cards for each other. The evening will feature horsd'oeuvres from Barrel House 211, beverages from Great River Brewery, a dessert table and a silentauction.

"Whenever I teach a pottery class and bring out the wheel, everyone immediately references 'Ghost' andstarts to sing 'Unchained Melody,'" said Carolyn Krueger, general manager of MidCoast. "So we decidedto provide a fun, festive atmosphere where couples can re-live that movie memory. I mean, when elseare you going to have this opportunity!"

Photographers will be on hand to document each couple's turn on the wheel. "Throwing a pot might
take skill, but every couple can get hands-on, have fun, laugh, and take home a memory," Ms.Crouch said. "We also will have papier-mâché clay and other materialsavailable for couples to craft visual valentines for each other."

Each couple also will receive a clayfortune cookie with love notes inside. Once the clay is broken, it can be dampened and re-used.

Bucktown studios will be open during the event, providing guests with the opportunity to shop for local artand talk with the artists who create it.

Registration is required for the event and there is limited availability. Each couple will be assigned specific times for the pottery wheel. The cost for the event is $50 per couple with proceeds going to fundMidCoast initiatives. To register, or for more information, contact Ms. Crouch at (563) 424-1210 orpcrouch@midcoast.org.
