Church starts 22nd annual Lenten concert series

ROCK ISLAND -- Two Rivers United Methodist Church, 1820 5th Ave., will host its 22nd annual2013 Lenten Noontime Concert Series starting at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the church Sanctuary.
The series will begin with trumpet player Edgar Crockett and pianist David Holcomb. Mr. Crockett holds a doctorate in composition from the University of Iowa, and serves as a music professor at Black Hawk College, Moline.Mr. Holcomb is a well-known local pianist.
Future concerts will be:
Feb. 27: Organist, Judith Litherland, a graduate of the School of Music of the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, and organist and handbell choir director at Two Rivers Church.
March 6: The Rock Island High School Chamber Singers, directed by Scott Voight and accompanied by Cheryl Bolt.
March 13: Cellist Michael Wahlmann and pianist Larry Peterson; Mr. Wahlmann is a veteran performer on the series, plays in several orchestras in the area, is an active singer, teaches cello and directs the adult and children's choirs at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Island; Mr. Peterson is associated with Augustana College and Levsen Organ Company.
March 20: Baritone Mark Swessinger, music teacher at Longfellow School in Rock Island and music director at Two Rivers Church.
March 27: Organist Stephen Steely.
Each concert begins at 12:15 p.m. and lasts about a half hour. Concerts are free, but free-will donations will be accepted.
