A Saturday morning fire heavily damaged a Davenport home. Fire District Chief Neil Gainey said no one was injured in the fire at 3404 W. Locust St., Davenport. Firefighters dispatched to the split-level house at 9:49 a.m. Saturday arrived to find a "fairly significant" fire in the basement of the home, Chief Gainey. One person was home at the time of the fire, Chief Gainey said, he was outside with two dogs when firefighters arrived. Firefighters were able to rescue two cats and a rabbit. Chief Gainey said firefighters extinguished the blaze in 10 to 15 minutes. Although unable to determine its cause, the fire "definitely (originated) in the basement," he said. Damage was estimated at $150,000. Chief Gainey said he was not sure if the house would be habitable and the residents were being taken care of by family members Saturday night.
