1888 — 125 years ago: Fire at the Harper Theater, Rock Island last night resulted indamage estimated at $1,000. The blaze was confined to the basement.
1913 — 100 years ago: The Davenport automobile show, which will have a strongrepresentation from Rock Island dealers, is to be opened Feb. 19.
1938 — 75 years ago: Plans for holding the fourth annual national convention of theNational County Officers Association in Rock Island May 26, 27 and 28 were outlinedyesterday afternoon by George F. Breitbach, of Milwaukee, president, and CountyRecorder John S. Devine, of Rock Island, secretary, at a conference in the chamber ofcommerce offices. Between 400 and 500 delegates from about thirty states are expectedto be present.
1963 — 50 years ago: Hundreds of Rock Island County residents of varying faithsand races next Thursday are expected to attend the annual Brotherhood Tea, held inconnection with the observance of National Brotherhood Week which begins tomorrow.
