Rock Island sets WB6 mark with four winter sports titles

Comment on this story

For the first time in Western Big 6 Conference history, one school has claimed titles in boys' and girls' basketball, wrestling and boys' swimming in one season. With Rock Island winning at least a share of the boys' basketball title on Friday, it set a new mark.

The Rocks already won titles in girls' basketball, boys' swimming and wrestling. A win this Friday by the boys' basketball team would give them four outright championships.

Girls' bowling is the only sport Rocky did not win this winter as Moline claimed the title.

Rocky did win boys' basketball, girls' basketball, boys' swimming and girls' bowling in 1986, but United Township won the wrestling title.

The previous record was three sports set by Rocky (boys' basketball, girls' basketball and boys' swimming) in 1991 and Moline (boys' basketball, girls' basketball and wrestling) in 2009.
