Rosemary Ehlers, 78, a resident of Davenport, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Jersey Ridge Place, Davenport, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Rosemary will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 417 Main St., Davenport. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends Sunday from 1 until 4 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport. There will be a prayer service offered at 2:30 p.m. that all are encouraged to attend. There will be additional visitation Monday in the gathering space at St. Anthony's from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Rosemary Hueser was born July 24, 1934, in Davenport, a daughter of Stephan and Theresa Boeckmann Hueser. Rosemary graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy. She was united in marriage to Ralph Frank Ehlers on July 22, 1961, in Davenport. Ralph preceded her in death on June 22, 2010.
In earlier years Rosemary worked for the former Duffy Paper Company; she then entered a career in the insurance industry, working for Western Casualty Insurance Company and retired from American States Insurance Company, which had acquired Western Casualty. She was the office manager at the time of her retirement.
She had been an active member of St. Anthony's Church, and along with her husband Ralph, she was a dedicated volunteer at the church for many years.
Rosemary and Ralph enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the country; as well as bowling and golfing. Her dogs also were a constant joy in her life. Although her greatest joy was spending time with her family; she especially enjoyed time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Gimbel for his compassionate care that he shared with Rosemary, and to the entire staff at Jersey Ridge Place.
Memorials can be made to Father Conroy's Vineyard, c/o Sister Ludmilla Benda or to the Q-C Alzheimer's Association.
Those left to honor her memory include daughters, Barbara Waters, Davenport, Mary Bulens, Hampton, Joanne Van Acker, Buffalo; sons, Michael (Sharyn) Ehlers and Anthony "Tony" (and Johnna Ryan) Ehlers, both of Davenport, and Paul "Joe" (Beth Dugan) Ehlers, Kenosha, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ash, Bettendorf, Joan Gruenwald and Theresa Guy, both of Davenport; a brother, Paul (Dorothy) Hueser, Davenport; sisters-in-law, Joyce Hueser and Marge Hueser, both of Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Ralph; a daughter, Debbie, 1968; and siblings, Richard, Walter, Hubert, Arnold, Joseph, Catherine Bein, Rita Havaco and Jean Miller, also preceded her in death. May they rest in peace.
