Coal Valley's plans to sell a parcel of land have been put on hold after a deal fell through with Country Style Ice Cream, the village board learned Wednesday.

The village had drafted a tentative agreement to sell the 58-by-300 feet parcel adjacent to Dollar General at 108 W. 1st Ave., for $50,000 to Kent Kindelsperger for a Country Style franchise, but he wasn't able to reach an agreement with his business partners, village treasurer Penny Woods said.

Mr. Kindelsperger could not be reached for comment.

Ms. Woods said Rock Island County will open bids in April for contractors interested in grading and installing a culvert on Shaffer Creek Bridge on Niabi Zoo Rd. The bridge will be rebuilt in 2014, she said.

The village also received arecycling award from Allied Recycling for recycling 64 tons of trash in 2012.
