While four area small-school teams are still alive in the hunt for an IHSA state boys' basketball berth, 17 of the area's top 3-point sharpshooters have their own opportunity to play in Peoria.

Ten competitors in Class 2A and seven more in 1A advanced out of the regional stage of the Country Financial Three-Point Showdown and will get to shoot for state this Friday night at the various sectional sites.

Among the area players who will compete at Friday night's 2A Farmington Sectional finals are Monmouth-Roseville's guard duo of senior Liam Merritt and junior Martel Hunter, both of whom advanced from the Titans' own regional gathering.

Orion senior forward Jason Marshall will also compete at Farmington after topping the field at the Rockridge Regional. Also advancing from Rockridge were a trio of Kewanee Boilermakers -- senior guards Matt Gustafson and Dayton Ince and junior forward John Moraski.

Competing at the 2A Byron Sectional will be a quartet of West Carroll Regional advancers, all from the Three Rivers Conference -- Riverdale senior guards Jared Richmond and Cade Sharp, Fulton sophomore forward Matt Dail and Morrison senior guard Alexander Volckmann.

In Class 1A, three more TRAC-9 players advanced out of the Erie Regional to compete at Friday night's Lanark Eastland Sectional finals. Erie's senior guard/forward Jacob Johnston will be joined by a pair of Prophetstown forwards, senior Carter Ames and junior Ethan Howard.

Shooting at the Brown County Sectional in Mount Sterling will be four ROWVA Regional advancers: Wethersfield's junior guard Trevor Lay and junior center Matt Jenkins, Annawan senior guard Tony Gripp and ROWVA junior guard Sam Rammage.
