Charles D. Harris, 82, of Moline, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Those wishing to attend will need to be at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline, at 9:45 a.m. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at the funeral home. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
Charles was born on Jan. 15, 1931, in Browing, Mo., the son of Norman and Loy Martin Harris. He married Betty J. Brown on Dec. 5, 1953, in East Moline.
Charles worked as a cement mason, retiring in 1993. He belonged to the Cement Masons International Association Local 18. He was a member of Moline VFW Post 2153 and Moline American Legion Post 246.
Charles loved gardening and weekend traveling. He enjoyed collecting ballcaps and was never seen without one.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Harris, Moline; sons, Robert Harris, Moline, Todd Harris, Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Hoggard, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Jerry (Abby) Hoggard, Kaela Hoggard, Alexa Harris and Kalli Harris; great-granddaughters, Addison Hoggard and Taylor Hoggard; sisters, Norma Ashley, East Moline, and Mildred VanHoutte, Colona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
