Shirley Mae Perry, 87, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Humane Society.
Shirley was born March 4, 1926, in Rock Island, the daughter of Fred and Irma Claussen McMillan. She married William D. Perry on Jan. 12, 1946, during a whirlwind romance with parties and dances. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2012.
Shirley was co-owner and operator of the Paperback Trader in Moline, retiring in 2005.
She was a member of the Good Shepherd Church, Rock Island, and former member of First United Presbyterian Church.
Shirley loved to paint, using watercolors and oils as her medium. Her interests included still life and landscapes.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Rich Potter, Rock Island; son and daughter-in-law, William K. and Rita Perry, Marion, Ky.; grandchildren, Jennifer (fiance, Rob Phillips) Klawon, Jim (Beccy) Klawon and Melissa (Josh) Compton; and two special family friends, Sandy and Stacy Carlson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff on the fourth floor at St. Anthony's Care Center, as well as Trinity Pathway Hospice for the wonderful care given to their mother and grandmother during her stay.
