Curly Van Raes, 96, of Moline, passed away March 11, 2013, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, March, 15, at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Friends may call Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where a Christian wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Entombment is at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
A.L. was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Moline, the son of Alois and Adella DeBruyne VanRaes. He married Margaret B. VanQuekelberghe June 8, 1940, in East Moline.
Curly was employed 38 years at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, retiring in 1972, as a supervisor.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and took several groups to the Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; daughters and son-in-law, Rita D. VanRaes, Moline, Teresa and Jim Dyer, Coal Valley; grandson, Matijs Huyten, DeWitt, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Richard D. VanRaes; and brothers Marcel and the Rev. Michael VanRaes.
