The American Red Cross is assisting a Rock Island family of five after their house was damaged by fire.
The Rock Island Fire Department responded at 1:20 a.m. Sunday to a fire in a second-floor bedroom at 4420 5th Ave. Smoke was coming from the second-floor windows and all occupants were outside, according to the fire department.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and confirmed there was no one in the house. No injuries were reported.
The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire's cause, according to a news release, and the Rock Island Inspection Department was on the scene to determine if the structure was habitable.
The Red Cross is helping the family of two adults and three children with shelter and other necessities, the fire department said.
