The 19th Avenue Park in Coal Valley is being renamed Stanley Engstrom Park in honor of the village president's 40 years as both a trustee and village president. The park is located on E. 19th Avenue between E. 4th Street and E. 4th Street A.
COAL VALLEY -- Trustees on Wednesday approved a resolution renaming the village park on East 19th Avenue to Stanley B. Engstrom Park, in honor of Mr. Engstrom's 40 years as trustee and mayor.
Mayor pro tem Rick Lasek said the acre-size park is in the neighborhood where Mr. Engstrom grew up.
"We've been talking for quite a while now to do something for Stan since he is retiring as mayor," said Mr. Lasek. He said a plaque bearing Mr. Engstrom's name will be affixed to the park pavilion.
Mr. Engstrom could not be reached for comment.
