Grab a pen and celebrate poetry at Saturday's conference

April is National Poetry Month, and the Midwest Writing Center is celebrating on Saturday with a slate of poetry workshops for its bi-annual "Pen In Hand" mini-conference.
It will be on the third floor of the Bucktown Center for the Arts, 225 E. 2nd St., Davenport.
Award-winning poets Shane McCrae and Erin M. Bertram will join MWC executive director and poet Ryan Collins in leading three workshops that will explore different aspects of poetry, including sound, form, narrative and play in poetry.
They will finish the day in a panel discussion and Q & A which will look at contemporary American poetry through three perspectives.
The schedule is:
-9 – 10:45 a.m.: Poetry: Daily Experiments with Ryan Collins
- 10:50 a.m. – 12:35 p.m.: Narrative & Poetry with Erin M. Bertram
- 12:35 – 1:30 p.m.: Lunch
- 1:30 – 3:15 p.m.: Poetry & Sound with Shane McCrae
- 3:20 – 5:05 p.m.: Panel Discussion and Q & A: Looks Alive to Me — Issues in Contemporary American Poetry with Erin M. Bertram, Ryan Collins and Shane McCrae
Participants are responsible for their own lunches. The mini-conference costs$25 per workshop or $75 for all four for MWC members, or $30 per workshop and $90 for all four for nonmembers. To register or for more information, call 563-324-1410.
