An East Moline man made his initial court appearance Monday on two counts of animal cruelty filed after police say he abandoned two dogs in his home, where they died.

Anthony J. Blair,27, of 169 15th Ave., was arrested March 22 and later released from the Rock Island County Jail after posting ten percent of a $20,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for April 9 in Rock Island County Circuit Court.

Police reported that Mr. Blair's ex-wife called police to the property on Feb. 16, where the bodies ofOscar, a five-year-old terrier mix, and Nala, a six-year-old terrier, were found.

Authorities believe Mr. Blair abandoned the two dogs inside the home for several months, with no indication the animals were fed or cared for.

The home, situated in a residential neighborhood, was occupied by Mr. Blair and his wife up until the couple's divorce last summer. Mr. Blair's ex-wife was not living at the home at the time the dogs were found and is not facing charges.
