Throughout a long career in softball as a player, umpire and coach, Jeff Tyrrell was someone who made a difference wherever he went, including his last stop as Monmouth College's pitching coach.

On Sunday, the Fighting Scots will pay tribute to Tyrrell, who passed away last fall after suffering a heart attack. A special memorial to him will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Monmouth College diamond, after which his old team will face Midwest Conference rival Illinois College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

A eulogy will be delivered by Tyrrell's son Kevin, currently an assistant coach at United High School. Jeff Tyrrell also coached at United and was a part of the Red Storm's run of Class 1A Final Four teams from 2008-11. He also served prep coaching stints at Monmouth and at Rochester, in the Springfield area.
