Bandits complete four-game sweep at Kane County

Result: The Quad Cities River Bandits completed a four-game sweep over the Kane County Cougars after a 3-1, 13-inning win at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva, Ill., on Sunday. The Bandits are the only Midwest League team to sweep the season-opening series.

How it happened: For the second consecutive game, the Bandits earned an extra-inning win. This time, they scored two runs in the 13th. QC took a lead with a run in the fifth, but the Cougars answered with a seventh-inning tally. Teoscar Hernandez laced a one-out triple in the 13th before scoring the game-winning run on a passed ball. Jesse Wierzbicki's two-out single provided an insurance run.

On the mound: Brian Holmes, Jordan Jankowski, John Neely and Cameron Lamb limited the Cougars to one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Holmes allowed two hits and struck out one with no walks in his five-inning start. Lamb earned the win, recording the final four outs.

At the plate: Back-up catcher Jobduan Morales went 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI. The Bandits other nine batters combined for four hits. Carlos Correa went 0-for-5 with a run scored and walk.

Worth noting: QC has yet to trail this season. ... The Bandits struck out 42 times in the four-game series. ... The starting pitchers allowed five earned runs in 20 innings during the series.

Up next: The Bandits open a three-game road series against the Burlington Bees tonight at Community Field. Joe Bircher gets the start in the 6:30 contest.
