The Silvis School District board has approved laying off two workers who they later plan to rehire.
A nurse and an aide will be laid off at the end of this school year, but will be rehired the following school year at reduced hours to save money, said district superintendent Ray Bergles said.
The vote was unanimous with Dennis Miner not present.
The school board on Wednesday also voted to raise the cost of breakfast and lunch for students and staff.
School breakfasts and lunches for students will cost 10 cents more in the coming school year — $1.25 for breakfast and $2 for lunch — and milk will increase five cents to 30 cents per carton.
Staff meal prices will rise 25 cents to $1.75 for breakfast and $2.75 for lunch.
Free and reduced lunch students will not be affected, Mr. Bergles said. Higher food prices and changes in federal reimbursements were cited as prompting the price increases.
The vote on the increases also was unanimous, with Mr. Miner not present.
