SPRINFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Gov. Pat Quinn says residents of Illinois must come together to help the homeowners across the state whose properties were damaged by floods in the past two weeks.
Quinn spoke Thursday at the 51st Annual Illinois Governor's Prayer Breakfast in Springfield.
Attendees included lawmakers and faith leaders among several other people.
Quinn has declared 48 areas around the state as disaster zones following the floods.
He says Illinoisans must act as a family to help their neighbors and friends.
Dr. Tom Jones is the ambassador-at-large of Habitat for Humanity. He was the event's keynote speaker. Jones says 30 percent of Americans currently face housing challenges.
Previous speakers at the governor's breakfast include former Chicago Bears player Mike Singletary and NASA astronaut Mae Jemison.
