Guss Jr. wins Roberts Memorial again

It was all about having fun and being competitive for Roberts Motorsports in the third running of the Hershel Roberts Memorial Deery Brothers SummerSeries race.
That approach to the 58-lap IMCA Late Modelfeature race on Sunday nightgotRay Guss Jr. to victory lane. It was thethird straight year Guss Jr. had won inHershel's58 car.
"It is awesome," Guss Jr said. "We had to hang on for this one. I kept trying the bottom,because (Dan) Shelliam in the 16(S) car kept showing his nose down there. I ended up getting uncomfortable with the car, so I had to go to the top."
Mike Zemo Jr. may have had something to do with Guss Jr.'s comfort level. Zemo Jr.was on a railon the high side, but had to settle with asecond-place run.
"Iwas running the outside and it finally started comingin," Zemo Jr. said. "There was nobody else up there, so I was going to do it. Right there at the end, he moved up to get me."
The race opened with 29 green-flag laps before a caution. Three more cautions followed, including, the final yellow, on lap 50.Guss Jr. moved to the high side two lapsafter the restart to hold off Zemo Jr.
Davenport's Brian Harris won the B main and finished third in the feature. Theonlyotherlocal Top-10 finisher in the featurewasNate Beuseling (Silvis)in 7th. Davenport driverMatt Ryan won the C main with Colona'sRob Toland comingin second.
U-Pull-A-Part / Cimco IMCA Modifieds:2012 track champion Greg Durbin earned his first feature winof the2013QCS season.
"It was fun," Durbin said. "We led some laps. We had a few laps to go and I saw (Doug) Crampton on the bottom. I knew he would probably out-motor me, but we got some good runs off the high-side."
Crampton made quick work getting to the front. He moved from fifth to second in four laps between cautions. Crampton settled for second-place after Durbin set sail with two laps left. Jason Masengarb finished third. There were six cautions in the 20-lap feature,with the final yellow coming on lap 13.
Mitch Bielenberg took the No. 12 machine to victory lane inthe first heat. Zach Dahl piloted the D23 to the win in the second heatrace.Mike Grossman won the third and final race of the night.
