Q-C Choral Arts to present "Passion"-ate program

Timothy Stalter, University of Iowa's director of choral activities, will be a guest vocal soloist at Sunday's concert of J.S. Bach works at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.

Quad City Choral Arts, under the direction of Jon Hurty, will present excerpts from J.S. Bach's "St.
John Passion" and Bach's entire Cantata BWV4 ("Christ lag in Todes Banden") on Sunday afternoon.

The selections fromthe "St. John Passion" -- a 1724 work reflecting the story of Jesus' last days, from the Gospel of John -- are a preview of the Handel Oratorio Society's performance of the entire workin the spring of 2014.

The concert (with chamber orchestra) will be3 p.m. Sunday atSt. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport.Soloists will include University of Iowa professor and director of choral activities Timothy Stalter and Augustana music faculty members Michelle Crouch, Howard Eckdahl, Sonja Hurty and Saul Nache.

Quad City Choral Arts was founded by artistic director Jon Hurty (Augustana College's director of choral activities) to provide theregion with high-quality choral music. The group performs a wide variety of literature from choralechamber music to major choral works with orchestra. Quad City Choral Arts members are as variedas the music they sing. Many members are music teachers or choir directors in the area while othersrepresent a variety of professions. Membership in the group is by audition.
