6 street projects, including John Deere Road, on Moline's agenda

MOLINE -- Aldermen tonight will review six large road construction projects scheduled this year on John Deere Road, Avenue of the Cities and 12th Avenue.

According to council documents, the Illinois Department of Transportation needs the city council to approve its plans for widening John Deere Road. Aldermen also must approve the use of $238,930 in motor fuel tax funding to pay Moline's share of the $12.6 million.

Two other items related to John Deere Road include the council's agreement to accept IDOT's transfer of 41st Drive and 41st Avenue Drive to the city after construction and to add both to the city's street system.

Other construction items aldermen will consider:

-- Paying Missman Inc. $60,930 for construction inspection services for the resurfacing of Avenue of the Cities, from 41st to 43rd streets. Council documents state the city's engineering division is not able to do the construction inspection because of staffing vacancies. The council previously approved a $714,943 contract with McCarthy Improvement Co. to do the work this year. Federal MFT funds will pay for 80 percent of the project.

-- Paying Missman Inc. $85,350 for construction inspection services for 12th Avenue reconstruction from 19th to 34th streets. IDOT is expected to put the project out for bid in June and have the road work done this year.

Aldermen will review those items sitting as the committee of the whole. If given preliminary approval tonight, each would be forwarded to the city council for formal approval later this month or early June.

The committee of the whole meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall, 619 16th St. The city council meeting immediately follows.
